Will Smith & Martin Lawrence’s Epic Sneaker Rivalry: Who Was the Real ‘Bad Boy’ of Kicks?

It takes massive camaraderie to make four movies together and still spread magic like the first. Yet, Will Smith

and Martin Lawrence proved that no matter how many times they ride on the Bad Boys

train, they are destined to churn out a blockbuster. But what happens when the Bad

Boys

themselves play baddies against each other? While it may be unlikely cinematically, in reality, it is not when it comes to the sneaker craze.

So, if Smith and Lawrence were to trade action punches for a kicks game, would it be a tie or does someone get the last laugh?

Inside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s kicks competition

Will Smith recently went Sneaker Shopping

with Complex

at Lapstone & Hammer in Philadelphia. After a trip down the former’s memory lane to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

days, the host wanted to know what the sneaker scene was like while getting those for cinematic closets. According to the actor, Nike had set up an office in LA, “strictly and only”

to get the celebrities the up-and-coming drops. Martin Lawrence and Smith were fighting every other day to get their hands on them first.

What catapulted Smith ahead of the race, however, was his “taping scheduling,” which

was ahead of Lawrence. As a result, no matter how hard the fight and competitive the race, the Hancock

actor would always be out first.

While the host and Smith had a good laugh about the match-fixing, the actor revealed that it was how he also had an edge in getting the gears first for the movies before anyone else could.

That said, Will Smith even revealed a wild fact about his sneaker shopping trajectory after the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Will Smith reveals a jaw-dropping sneakers fact post Fresh Prince era

During his conversation with Complex at Lapstone & Hammer in Philadelphia, Joe La Puma recalled an interview where Jazzy Jeff revealed Will Smith probably did not go sneaker shopping ever after the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

. While it may be difficult for fans to believe, especially for someone who has a million-dollar empire of his own

, there might be some truth to it. After the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

, Smith reportedly had all the contacts in the industry.

As bizarre as it sounds, Smith never really had to go on sneaker retail therapy since the show.

According to the actor, this Complex outing was the second round of sneaker shopping following his previous outing for an episode in 2020. So, if there is a worldwide consensus on which Bad Boy lucked out in the sneaker game the most, it is undeniably the one and only Will Smith.
