Once interviewing Benedict Cumberbatch on his talk show, The Graham Norton Show
, Graham Norton said, “With great fame comes great fandom.” And with great fandom comes weirdos.”
It was his funny take on the fervent fan following for the actor, but in Taylor Swift
‘s case, this is not just another funny comment but an unavoidable fact. Even the pop star royalty who easily commands billions around the world through her soulful tunes cannot escape the stalker problem that has long plagued Hollywood stars.
Recently, Taylor Swift has sought legal aid to protect herself from a harassing stalker whose apparent wild claims will leave every Swiftie angry.
The male stalker who is making Taylor Swift’s life miserable
It has been reported by TMZ
that Taylor Swift has applied for and been granted a temporary restraining order against a 45-year-old man named Brian Jason Wagner, who hails from Colorado. As per her filing, in the last one year, since July 2024, Wagner has arrived at Swift’s home in Los Angeles many times and has pleaded that the man has made outrageous statements about “living at my property, being in a relationship with me,”
and “believing I am the mother of his son,”
but none of these claims are true.

As per Taylor Swift, all the allegations are “untrue and disconnected from reality.”
But what is more alarming is that
Brian Jason Wagner has also made demands to see her in person.
In her filing, the singer has also highlighted the possibility of physical threat, as Wagner once held a glass bottle, which she feared he could have used like a weapon. Swift’s fear for the well-being of herself and the family has been acknowledged by the court.

The judge has ruled in favor of the pop star, who in the near future need not to worry about her stalker.
How will this restraining order protect Taylor Swift?
As per the temporary restraining order, Brian Jason Wagner has been legally bound to stay at least 100 yards away from the musician, her family, and her properties. A more permanent order is expected to be issued on June 30, after which Taylor Swift will get more benefits and will hopefully be secure from him for good. While Swift is fresh off the biggest achievement in her musical career after buying her song masters
, the legal issue is a stark reminder of other stalking incidents in the past.

In the last decade, Taylor Swift has been plagued by around a dozen stalkers, many of whom were put in temporary prison or sentenced to psychiatric treatment. In fact, in her biographical movie, Miss Americana
, Swift even mentioned how a stalker broke into her house and used her bed. The incident left her grossed out and hoping that the fandom will show more respect towards artists, as there is a fine line between connectivity and stalkerish behavior.
