When Meghan Markle’s attempt to colour her hair bombed badly
For the latest interview on her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder,
Meghan Markle invited her friend and hair colourist, Kadi Lee, with whom she discussed the hair colour failure during the pandemic. At that time, when human contact was restricted, Markle took the matter in her own hands and ordered boxed hair dye, which she thought would make her look like the lady on the box. But instead, it gave an opposite result. “Instead, it was this very inky, almost Elvira-esque black hair,”
she shared.
This was right after Meghan Markle’s family had moved to California and were staying in their friend’s home. Following this, she sought the help of her regular stylist, who suggested that she reach out to Kadi Lee, and the stylist arrived ready to help out the Duchess upon her request. Markle further reveals that since then, the two have become close friends, with even her children referring to Lee as “Auntie Kadi.”
Besides this, Markle also shared another personal anecdote of why she changed the name of her brand to As Ever
in the same episode.

When Meghan Markle highlighted her physical struggles due to her background
Meghan Markle has always been very vocal about the struggles and hardships she has endured because of belonging to mix race. In an exclusive essay she once wrote for The Tig, she shared that when she was in college at Northwestern, her sorority there made plug-in flat irons at the time, which she could not use. What she used was a little stove with a flat iron that would go in and have a paper towel on the side.
Meghan Markle shared that this would make other non-black girls wonder about the smell that came out of it, thinking that the hair was burning. That is what she did to deal with the texture of her hair. Prior to that, she has also shed light on the problems faced by mixed people in an essay she wrote for Elle Magazine. While things are much easier now for her, she continues to lend her voice to empathise with people who have endured issues similar to hers.
