M. Night Shyamalan, the sovereign of suspense and patron saint of plot twists, has long ruled the shadowy corners of cinema. With The Sixth Sense
whispering ghostly truths and The Visit
making elderly relatives existentially terrifying, he has turned discomfort into art and disbelief into applause. His accolades rest not only in awards, but in gasps and replays. Each frame brims with foreboding, each silence feels like a scream on pause. So naturally, another Shyamalan story means we are all on edge.
Now comes word that his newest tale, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal at his brooding best, has at last been christened.
M. Night Shyamalan just named his next mystery
as filmmakers to deliver a dual-format narrative titled Remain
. The story follows New York architect Tate Donovan, who seeks solace in Cape Cod while designing his best friend’s summer residence. Struggling with recent trauma and mental health recovery, Donovan encounters Wren, a mysterious young woman who begins to disrupt the structure of his meticulously ordered world.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor are reportedly cast in the forthcoming film adaptation, which remains under wraps like a surprise ending. “Collaborating with M. Night Shyamalan has been one of the highlights of my career,”
Nicholas Sparks confessed, just before unveiling the book’s moody cover by designer Flamur Tonuzi.
