J. Cole has recently announced that his highly praised mixtape ‘Friday Night Lights’ is now available on all streaming platforms, after almost 15 years since it first dropped. This re-release came at the same time as the fifth episode of his new podcast series Inevitable
, where the rapper took a deep dive into how the mixtape came together. Amid all the hype around the audio series, J. Cole took a moment to reflect on his long-running feud with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West
, someone who used to be his biggest inspiration.
J. Cole has now admitted to throwing shots at Ye in their 2010 collaboration and explained why he felt it was needed at the time.

In the latest episode of his Inevitable
, J. Cole opened up about the making of his and Ye’s 2010 ‘G.O.O.D. Fridays’ collaboration. He shared that some comments Ye made during the promotions of ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ in 2010 left him very disappointed. Therefore, when they teamed up for the track ‘Looking for Trouble,’ Cole admitted that his verse had a few digs aimed at the ‘Graduation’ rapper. ”

The comments that Cole was referring to came during a UStream Q&A when a fan asked Ye if he would ever work with the ‘Grippt’ artist. To which Ye responded, saying, “maybe we’ll put him on a G.O.O.D. Friday track or somethin
”. Cole found that answer very “dismissive.
” Over the years, especially after Ye’s controversies post-2020, the rift between him and Cole only deepened. Yet, despite it all, J. Cole recently credited Ye as his biggest inspiration.

podcast was shared on the Reddit page GoodAssSub, where he spoke about how his life was “hella regular
” until “Kanye West happened
.”
“Kanye was the first time I saw myself in somebody
,” Cole said. It was Ye who showed Cole how to talk about life and everyday experiences in a way that hit home with people. The ‘She Knows rapper’ also admitted that Ye was his “favorite rapper
”
back in the day. While their relationship has changed over time, J. Cole never forgets to give Ye his due credit.
