‘The Witcher’ Fandom Rains Fury at ‘Sirens of the Deep’ as Franchise Releases First Project Post Henry Cavill Exit

Years have passed since Henry Cavill

left The Witcher

fans stranded on the Continent, but there have been no signs of slowing down on the heartbreaks even as the mast flies for the Sirens of the Deep

. Although The Witcher

has yet to make its entry without the Geralt of Rivia fans celebrated through the first three installments, the streaming giant just dropped the highly anticipated animation film, only to turn that enthusiasm into a stream of fury from fans worldwide. While the Netflix show has confronted its fair share of skepticism before it even drops, now the blows have made a crash landing on the fantasy flick, leaving fans to lick their wounds.

The Witcher

fans of Reddit were far from the celebratory spirit as The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep

hit the Netflix shelves on February 11, 2025.

Adapted from Andrzej Sapkowski’s A Little Sacrifice, it is an animated fantasy drama film, written by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin, directed by Kang Hei Chul, and set in The Witcher

universe. Shortly after the streaming release, a Reddit user recently kicked off an official discussion about the film to gauge opinions from every spectrum of the fandom.

Such conversations generally leave fans polarized, but since the Henry Cavill heartbreak left a void so unrepairable, The Witcher

followers did not mince words with their reviews. The project was first announced in late 2023, with a projected release date for the conclusive stretch of 2024. While its release should have relieved the fans, as it generally does with delayed The Witcher

projects, respite was the only emotion they did not feel in abundance.

When The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep

announced a trailer release in January

season 4. But now, all that hype has fallen flat on the film, prompting concerns about the show’s fourth-season turnout.

The Witcher fans throw cold shoulder as Sirens of the Deep falls short after Henry Cavill exit

The Witcher

universe is unwavering about its ambitions to leave a mark without Henry Cavill. But with each passing update about its various projects, the likelihood thins out all the more. As the Reddit users turned into critics, throwing The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep

under the bus of raised eyebrows, a fan focusing on the “lore and story,”

condemned the streamer for butchering the source original. One even pointed out how they “omitted

” the pearl Geralt presents to Essi, despite being the “most important object”

of the narrative.

A user lamented that despite Sirens of the Deep

serving as the adaptation of their favorite The Witcher

story of all time, Netflix and the creators “went and changed it.”

Retaining accuracy with the source original has always been a shortcoming for The Witcher

. And Sirens of

the Deep

is another testament for fans to remain convinced that it was made by someone who perhaps read a “summary

” and never “read the books or played the games.”
