based on the Kakao Entertainment webtoon, Field Mouse
, by Ludovico. The upcoming Netflix series draws inspiration from a popular Korean folktale where a rat transforms into a human after consuming clipped fingernails. Kim Hong-sun directs The Rat
, famous for his works in Dear Hongrang, Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area,
and The Guest

Lee Jae-gon will write the script. Kakao Entertainment will produce The Rat
in partnership with CJES Studio and H.House. According to the synopsis, The Rat
follows Moon Jae, a reclusive writer whose fingerprint recognition on his phone fails. The friend who helped him manage those things has vanished into thin air. Now with no way left to prove that he indeed is Moon-jae, he discovers a mysterious figure, “Rat
,” has taken his name, identity, and fortune.

confirmed the casting of two stars for Netflix. Ryu Jun-yeol and Sul Kyung-gu will portray Moon-jae and No-ja, respectively
. Moon-jae is described as a sociophobic novelist living a reclusive life whose world turns upside down when his fingerprint fails to unlock his phone. To worsen the situation, his only friend disappears. Amid the fumbles, he is robbed of his identity and finances, and he soon learns a mysterious entity, “the Rat,”
has stolen everything.

No-ja is described as a moneylender who runs a private detective agency. No-ja once pursued Moon-jae for an unpaid debt. But he is surprised to see him reappear three years later in hopes that he would lend a hand to find “the Rat.”
While No-ja’s primary interest is in recovering the money, he soon finds himself embroiled in the hunt.

While Netflix just dropped a bombshell K-drama, when can viewers catch up with The Rat?
Release date of The Rat on Netflix
Netflix has yet to confirm a release date for The Rat.
However, filming is scheduled to happen between mid-April and November 2025. Since filming will most definitely take up the entire year, The Rat
is unlikely to be released this year. What’s on Netflix estimates The Rat t
