On April 25, Ryan Reynolds attended the Acadia Pharmaceuticals’ New York City panel for Parkinson’s Awareness Month. There, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE Magazine

, he talked about his father’s suffering from the disease for 20 years. He sympathized with his father, James Reynolds, who, in his words, was a working-class person who dealt with a degenerative disease that left him incapable of taking care of himself or others. According to Reynolds, it left a big impact on his brain. “That’s not easy,”

he added.

According to Ryan Reynolds, his father used to have hallucinations and delusions, which are not that well-known symptoms of Parkinson’s. The actor only got to know about this after he passed away. To make this issue more relevant among the masses, Reynolds partnered with the educational campaign, More to Parkinson’s, and Acadia. He also expressed the wish that, had these “miracle treatments”

been around for his father’s time, then he would not have had to suffer in silence, as he was too proud to admit his pain.

Besides all open and vocal, Ryan Reynolds also shed light on the condition of family caregivers who had to suffer along with the patients.

Constantly looking after a patient is an exhausting task, and Ryan Reynolds gave a necessary shoutout to the family members who look after those suffering from diseases like Parkinson’s and others. Recognising the caregiver fatigue, he compared it to a bag of rocks and expressed how the job could be a draining one. He further shared how his own mother was the primary caregiver for his father and felt all their pain. Due to this, when somebody reaches out, he makes time for all of them, the patient and the caregiver.

Reynolds has always been vocal about health issues that serve in public interest. A few days ago, he made a collaboration with the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope

to raise money for cancer research. In fact, in 2022, he documented his colonoscopy to raise awareness about it and urged people to get themselves checked. With his latest work for Parkinson’s, he has given fans another opportunity to love him for his kind self.
