Sequel to Fashion Hit ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Set to Arrive Sooner Than Expected

The Devil will wear Prada again. And you will see the Devil a.k.a. the persnickety and patronizing, swollen-headed and stiff-necked editor of Runway magazine, Miranda Priestly, sooner than you thought. Last July, it was reported that the 2006 hit Meryl Streep-starrer The Devil Wears Prada

is getting a sequel. Streep, along with her two petrified and spooked assistants, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, will likely return for the next chapter, penned by original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.

The initial release date was speculated to be late December 2026. But now, thanks to a Disney reshuffling, The Devil Wears Prada 2

comes ahead, that too before an anticipated Marvel release.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 takes the place of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

The Devil Wears Prada 2

is slated to be released on May 1, 2026,

as Variety reported.

That slot was initially booked for another high-profile release, Avengers: Doomsday

, which has now been pushed to December 18, 2026. The Devil Wears Prada

generated $326M in 2006 and earned Meryl Streep an Oscar nomination. It was based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 eponymous novel about a young woman’s harrowing experience of working under a powerful editor-in-chief at a fashion magazine called Runway.

Interestingly, the sequel reportedly is about Runway’s decline. In a twist of fate, Miranda Priestly (Streep) is in search of advertisement revenue following the decline of the fashion magazine. And guess what? She has to knock on the doors of Blunt’s character, who is now in a C-suite position at a luxury brand. It’s still a matter of speculation whether the original cast and crew will reunite for the sequel.

Although the word coming out of Disney HQ suggests there is a high chance of the cast coming back, but regardless, the early release date is positive news for fans amid Disney’s reshuffling that pushed multiple tentpole projects

to the back burner.

What does Disney’s updated calendar look like?

Disney’s reshuffling of the calendar came as a surprise to many and a shock to some. Especially because Robert Downey Jr.

was slated to make a grand return, albeit as a different character. However, as first reported by Deadline, the dates were pushed to give the films more time to complete rather than due to any production issue. Also, the fact that the December window has worked splendidly for Spider-Man: No Way Home

(2021) played a role.

The Thursday update from Disney also notes that Ridley Scott’s sci-fi adventure The Dog Star

s will premiere on March 27. Whereas, Avatar: The Way Of Water

will get an IMAX/3D re-release on October 3, barely two months before Avatar: Fire And Ash hits the theater.
