Rola Bauer will executive produce Amazon’s “Totally Spies!” and “Pompeii: A Day of Fire” after recently exiting her previous executive role at the company.
Bauer has been added as non-writing executive producer for both live-action series in the wake of her departure as Amazon’s head of Pan-English scripted originals. She left the role in late October to “return to her entrepreneurial roots” as an independent producer.
“Totally Spies!” and “Pompeii: A Day of Fire” are currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios, with both series drawing from existing IP.
The live-action series of “Totally Spies!” draws from the animated series, which is in production on its eighth season. The YA series of the same name will follow stylish best friends Clover, Alex and Sam as they navigate saving the world as international spies, while trying to survive the ups and downs of first year college life, per the official logline.
Bauer will EP “Totally Spies!” alongside Banijay Kids and Family CEO Benoît Di Sabatino as well as Gloria Sanchez Productions’ Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor.
“’Totally Spies!’ is a beloved franchise, and its fans deserve nothing less than the best to bring it to life as a live-action series,” Sabatino said in a statement. “Rola approached me a few years ago with the idea for this remake, and as a passionate supporter of the project, I’m thrilled she is bringing her expertise and vision for the series in this new role.”
“Pompeii: A Day of Fire” is a limited series based on the book “A Day of Fire: A Novel of Pompeii,” which was written by Kate Quinn, Stephanie Dray, Ben Kane, Eliza Knight, Sophie Perinot and Vicky Alvear. Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst serve as writers and showrunners, and executive produce the series alongside Bauer, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger and Sharon Hughff.
