Sixty seconds are enough to end the world, but crafting a cinematic aftermath is a slow burn. Bringing a post-apocalyptic vision to life, especially when treating a beloved tale like The Last of Us
, demands more than just a camera and crew. The pressure to honor an existing narrative was sky-high, where even the slightest misstep could feel apocalyptic in its own right. In a world where instant magic is rare, barring lightning-in-a-bottle hits like Netflix’s Adolescence
, reshoots and retakes are par for the course. But for Bella Ramsey, stepping back onto set for The Last of Us
season 2.
Rather than dreading the repetition, Ramsey embraced the process, treating each take as a chance to perfect her craft.
Bella Ramsey opens up about repeat filming on The Last of Us season 2
In a recent conversation on Sony’s Creator to Creator
, The Last of Us
actor, Bella Ramsey, weighed in on repeat filming in the HBO series. Instead of airing frustration about the re-takes, Ramsey offered a fresh perspective that challenges stereotypical opinions.
Speaking of season 2 episode 2 and Ramsey’s creative process, she recalled getting more “greedy
” to do it again. “I love the chance to do it again and again,”
she said.
Ramsey acknowledged that the opportunity of a retake has always been exciting because it proves how far she can push herself. Since emotions have a default humane mechanism, reshoots allow her to manipulate and own them accordingly. She tries to play with emotions by pulling her back and forth in opposite states. In The Last of Us
season 2, which made the audience cry a river, especially after the events of episode 2, Ramsey strategically utilized the opportunities.
Speaking about the aftermath of the episode when Bella Ramsey ends up in a hospital, The Last of Us

The Last of Us
star Bella Ramsey divulged and took a trip down memory lane to the hospital scene. During the episode, the creators included a flashback of Pedro Pascal’s Joel when Ramsey woke up in the hospital. But in reality, Pascal, who calls her his “blessing,”
was not there to provoke Ramsey’s emotion. “The experience of filming that scene was so vivid and stuck in my mind,”
she explained.

Even while filming the scene without Pascal, the incidents were replaying from the scene in her mind. She added that the opening of episode 3 in the hospital room was in a studio set in Vancouver, but during the shoot, she saw Pascal repeatedly on the floor, making the scene naturally emotional. Ramsey credits her “vivid imagination,”
which she jokes is personally “terrible
” for her. However, at times like this, it is more of a helping hand that helped her through The Last of Us
season 2.
