The mogul of
the rap world, Ye, aka Kanye West
, is the record holder as well as the smasher of
controversies. His decades-long career has served an endless platter of many
delicious dramas, proving the media and comedy shows a massive course of humor
to feast upon. Many a time a subject of parodies, Ye has once again been of
immense use to NBC’s longest-running comedy show, Saturday Night Live
, in their
latest episode. Being the subject as well as the initiator of mockery, this on-screen
portrayal of Ye was full of subtle comedy.
Famous for
its bold take blended with well-placed humour, SNL
chose to stir the pot of all
the major controversies Ye has been a part of in the past.
Mike Myers finds himself stuck with Ye in the latest SNL sketch
With a
spectacular episode on Saturday, May 17, SNL
wrapped up its 50th
season, hosted by Scarlett Johansson. And one particular sketch was entirely
devoted to Ye in which the singer played by show regular, Kenan Thompson, enters
an elevator occupied by Johannson and Mike Myers. Though the actress runs away
on seeing him, Myers finds himself stuck in the elevator with Ye against his
best wishes. And when the elevator stops functioning, Myers goes into panic
mode, saying, “I’m claustrophobic!”.
To this, the on-screen Ye replies, “I’m
a few phobics myself.”
The entire sketch,
named Mike Myers Elevator Rides,
was a hilarious amalgamation of Ye’s
controversial moments while Myers brilliantly expressed his discomfort and the
desire to get out of the elevator fast enough. While Kenan Thompson inquired
about the well-being of Myers and his family, the Canadian actor dodged the
bullets as best as he could. The humour increased even more when some people ran
away from stepping into the elevator once they saw Ye and Myers. The act ends in Myers’ frenzy as he jams the elevator,
pushing buttons, trying to step out, and ends up being stuck with Ye. But this is not the first time that the singer found space on SNL.

SNL
seems to have a deep love for Ye with many of its episodes making a parody of Ye’s statements and action.
Ye’s old connection with SNL
This is not
the first time that Ye, who has recently made news about the
‘Heil Hitler’ track
, has been mocked on SNL.
The rapper has always been a constant subject, used in many
of his hilarious acts, be it Weekend Update with Pete Davidson on Kanye West
or the Donald Trump Kanye West Cold Open
. His controversial moves and political statements
have always helped SNL
give many of its brilliant episodes. However, this final episode,
along with the Ye sketch, was a brilliant closure of the 50th season saw some
unexpected cameos.
While Gina Gershon and Emily
Ratajkowski appeared in the pre-recorded Bowen’s Still Straight
sketch, Bad
Bunny was the musical guest, appearing in the Player of the Week
sketch and the Couples at the Bar sketch
. But beyond it all, the Ye sketch was a good
watch, which stood out for its funny take on the singer. Yet, above everything else, it was the Ye sketch that stood out the most to hip-hop fans.
