is not just a novel but an emotion, a deep, enchanting tale of love, for millions across the world. The Regency Era novel, which took Jane Austen more than a decade to finish, became a benchmark of romance for everyone. And its cinematic adaptations have always delighted the audiences with every version preceding brilliantly than the previous one.
Once again, the literary masterpiece is going to be adapted for the screen, and this time the honor is being done by Netflix in the form of a series. But has the streaming giant found its leading faces already?
Who will be playing the modern-day Eliza Bennett and Darcy?
For any actor playing the role of the widely beloved Elizabeth Bennett and the world-class example of the perfect romantic hero, Darcy, is not an easy task. Which is why only those actors who could portray the roles with absolute perfection are considered for the upcoming series. Variety reports that Netflix might have found
these redeeming qualities in Jack Lowden. As per the outlet, Jack Lowden is currently in talks with Netflix to portray the iconic role of Darcy.

So far, there has been no confirmation from the streaming service. Though not too long ago, there have also been rumors that actress Daisy Edgar Jones has been approached for the role of Elizabeth Bennett. Jones has already proved her acting mettle with memorable performances in Fresh
and Where the Crawdads Sing
. While Lowden is known for his work in series like Dunkirk, Mary Queen of Scots
, period drama War and Peace
, and Slow Horses
, for which he received BAFTA, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominations.
Modeled after her own life, Jane Austen’s most celebrated work has found infinite love by people, generation after generation, for more than two centuries now. With their adaptation, Netflix aims to continue its legacy.
Netflix’s love for Jane Austen’s novels
In October last year, Netflix announced that they are developing a new Pride and Prejudice
series and have commissioned to write its script to author Dolly Alderton, credited for Everything I Know About Love. This is not the first time that Netflix has worked on bringing Jane Austen’s work to life. Three years ago, they adapted her other novel, Persuasion
, in 2022 with Dakota Johnson as the leading face. However, Pride and Prejudice
will be a bigger challenge. Capturing the essence of the modern, free-spirited, and reliable confidante, Eliza Bennett, is just as challenging as playing the aloof, egoistic yet with a heart of gold Darcy.

The last time these roles were portrayed to perfection was by Kiera Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen in the 2005 movie, which completes its 20-year anniversary this year, and will be celebrated with a grand gala thrown in its celebration
. Now the audience waits to see if Netflix’s choice of modern stars could do justice to these evergreen characters or not.
