Last month, Sadie Sink returned to Broadway with the play John Proctor is the Villain
, which opened with some uplifting reviews on April 14. Sink recently sat down with Deadline for a conversation
and revealed that to perform on the stage without any barriers, she was suggested to use her character, Shelby, “as a shield, protecting herself from the audience who may come to the play to see Max Mayfield”
from Stranger Things
. She went along with the suggestion to “just use the character to become a vessel for Shelby, so any vulnerability isn’t coming from yourself.”
According to Sadie Sink, there are some moments on stage where afterwards it does not feel very good or feels a little icky. And there was a particular scene in her latest play that left her with this feeling. So, to not let her uneasiness hold her back, Sink used the Max tactic because, according to her experience, when a performer is in the intimacy of the film and TV world, it is easier to let the guard down, but on stage there is vulnerability, and the guards want to go up in front of a live audience. Using her technique, she broadened her horizons and added more to the experience, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Apart from the performance troubles, Sadie Sink also opened up in the interview about the physicality aspect of performing in the play.

Speaking about the physical aspects and demands of Broadway, Sadie Sink told Deadline that she loves it when a role requires a lot of physicality, like stunt work in film and TV, adding, “I just think it’s such a tool when you’re going all out physically.”

, she trained a lot, keeping up her physical strength and her body strong and nourished. “I’m in the best shape of my life right now because of it,”
