We’re still a year away from the next Avengers team-up, but the movie is quickly coming together.
With a major cast reveal announcing the start of production on the film, Marvel fans are excited to get back to event films from the franchise. But it’s been a long road to get here, and as we mentioned, we still have a ways to go; it can be hard keeping all the details of the film sorted in your memory.
So, we’ve gone ahead and rounded them up in one place so you don’t have to! Here’s everything we know so far about “Avengers: Doomsday.”

“Avengers: Doomsday” is currently set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.

Marvel stunned audiences with its first cast reveal back at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, announcing Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the franchise — this time as Doctor Doom.
Then, the studio announced a deep bench of Avengers set to take him on in a very long livestream on March 26. You can see the full list here, though it seems Marvel may not be done just yet (after all, as TheWrap exclusively revealed, Chris Evans is supposed to return as well).

What is “Avengers: Doomsday” about?
At this point, exact story details are unknown, but as Marvel teased following its first major casting reveal, “it all leads to Doom.”
So with that promise, as well as the name of the film, it’s pretty clear that Doctor Doom is the next Avengers-level threat. What’s not clear is whether Downey Jr. is playing a Tony Stark variant who becomes Doctor Doom, or if something else is at play.
Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” have teased this movie as a “beginning” as opposed to the conclusive nature of their previous “Avengers” movies, so get ready for some set-up.
“What’s compelling about these two new Avengers movies is they’re a beginning. It’s a new beginning. We told an ending story, now we’re going to tell a beginning story. And then who knows where we’ll go from there.”
Who’s directing “Avengers: Doomsday”?
Marvel vets Joe and Anthony Russo are returning to direct both “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” after previously directing franchise hits including “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
Stephen McFeely, who cowrote the Russos’ previous Marvel films with Christopher Markus, will write the screenplays for both Avengers movies.
Didn’t this movie have a different title before?
It did indeed. Originally, the film was announced as “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” back in 2022. Fans were first introduced to Kang — or rather, a variant of him known as He Who Remains — in the first season of Marvel’s “Loki” series. He was played by Jonathan Majors.
We properly met Kang the Conqueror in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” He was set to be the villain at the center of literally everything for the next few phases, similar to Josh Brolin’s Thanos, but in December 2023, Majors was found guilty on charges of assault and harassment in his New York domestic violence case.
Following the verdict, Marvel fired him. “The Kang Dynasty” was set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025, with “Secret Wars” following on Nov. 7, 2025. With the retooling, both got pushed back.
Is there a trailer yet?
Not yet. “Avengers: Doomsday” only just went into production, filming in London. The closest thing we have to a trailer at this point is Robert Downey Jr. pulling an Agatha Harkness (we see you sir) at the end of the “Doomsday” cast reveal.

You can watch that below.
