Marvel Studios has always had a knack for doing things in the most cinematically chivalrous manner. Be it storytelling, or be it a cast unveiling, the creators have made themselves unbendable when it comes to delivering a full-fledged experience

while giving life to these comic book residents. And nothing short of an experience it was, when they collectively sat down to pull the white sheet off the cast list for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. 

Since good things are always bound to take time, avid fanatics had exactly that in mind when sitting down for the ultimate cast unveil of recent times: A five-hour-long theatrical walk-through a hall of chairs, revealing in excruciatingly slow progression, a star-studded cast. What was not anticipated, however, was the pure sense of disappointment upon not spotting a certain Tom Holland’s name as the beloved Spider-Man amongst the other gems

such as Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (the new Captain America), and Robert Downey Jr.

as Doctor Doom.

The heights of anticipation this cast reveal had been building up had been palpable, with fans at work speculating for months on end about who would be joining the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in this upcoming installment. The buildup of the not entirely unfamiliar engagement gimmick

had made the spectators increasingly conspicuous as the absence of Tom Holland was made more apparent with each cast members’ reveal.

The uncertainty that the recent unfolding of events has left the fans with is being looked at from two separate angles, one filled with hope and the other filled with dread about what the new face of the Avengers might look like in the absence of some of its most defining characters.

In immediate retaliation, social media exploded with reactions from fans expressing their dismay and confusion over why a character as pivotal as Spider-Man was not included in this major ensemble. Many fans questioned whether Holland’s Spider-Man would have a place in this new narrative arc, especially with Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom—a character that could potentially intersect with Spider-Man’s storyline.

While some emerge disappointed over the lack of Tom Holland’s seat, part of the fandom is ticked off by the non-necessity of the five-hour-long engagement stunt.
