Black Panther director wants Denzel Washington in the MCU anyhow

On a recent episode of the Nightcap

podcast, Black Panther series director Ryan Coogler joined hosts Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson for a deep dive into the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, zeroing in on Denzel Washington. “I’ve been dying to work with Denzel,”

Coogler said, expressing a hope that his plans become reality in the next superhero sequel, Black Panther 3

. There is nothing really that stands in their way, and if Washington is willing, “it’s going to happen.”

Coogler explained that Washington is a living and breathing legend who has been one of the most prominent Hollywood mentors. “He’s all about looking out for us,”

the director added. When asked how long it would be until Black Panther 3

gets going, Coogler revealed, “Not long.”

With that, Coogler also confirmed his plans to get Washington on board for the upcoming sequel. However, only time will reveal if it turns out to be a reality, and that too, in what capacity?

The casting tides of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are so fleeting and all-consuming, it is difficult for fans to keep track. However, for those who might not remember, Denzel Washington himself told The Today Show Australia

At the time, Washington also announced he would retire after King Lear

.

In a December interview on Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast

, Washington, however, revealed he had called Coogler for having discussed the movie before, when he was not supposed to. “Ryan’s a genius,”

Washington said, before adding, “whatever he writes, I’ll read.”

Now that Coogler himself has shed light on the matter, months after Washington, who is also a licensed minister

, his words add more weight to the what-ifs as the conversation gradually turns into theories of what-could-be.
