Ryan Reynolds was recently included in Variety’s Actors on Actors
feature, alongside Andrew Garfield. They were invited to the talk show for their 2024 releases, Deadpool & Wolverine
and We Live in Time.
Following the announcement for the December 9 interaction, a fan took to X to criticise Reynolds’ inclusion in the panel because of his portrayal of Deadpool- especially alongside Garfield who played such a serious role. In his defense, Reynolds responded to the post on X, writing, “comedy is also very difficult
”. He added, “both disciplines are beautiful
”.

Reynolds juxtaposed comedy alongside drama to explain why they are both challenging in their own way. Speaking of why he as a comedy actor deserved to be on the Actors on Actors
slate, Reynolds explained that comedy “has an added dimension in that it’s meant to look and feel effortless,
” which is not as simple as it may seem. While both 2024 movies were appreciated, their genres were starkly contrasting.
