Following this filming schedule, it is expected that The Altruists
could appear on Netflix by the second half of 2026, once all production is properly finished. Besides being the lead star for the upcoming original series, Julia Garner is also expected to help lead the charge as executive producer. She will be joined by Graham Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt as co-showrunners and executive producers, with James Ponsoldt directing the first episode. Though there is one detail that has left the fans confused.
Apparently, there is a literary work with the same name that is making fans wonder if the series is an adaptation.
Is The Altruists based on the famous novel?
No, setting the record straight, Netflix’s upcoming series The Altruists
and the novel of the same name are different works. Neither is the series an adaptation, nor has it taken any inspiration. The series is about the shocking real-life story of fraudster Caroline Ellison, the former crypto executive and romantic interest of the infamous FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried. They were convicted of fraud in 2023 in the bankruptcy of FTX. On the other hand, the novel is an all-fictitious tale by Andrew Ridker about a professor, Arthur Alter, and his attempts to recover his inheritance from his estranged children.
Review of my nephew’s just about to be released first novel: ““The Altruists” is a tender and evocative, if occasionally obvious, call for universal generosity in a time of change, grief and nationwide emotional tension.” Very proud of #andrewridker #thealtruists @VikingBooks pic.twitter.com/1sReK1PjlU

A dark yet funny family saga that explores themes of privilege, morality, and other things, the novel is a fictional cult in the Grand Theft Auto series. They revolve around money, but the two are not remotely related. This marks a big streaming comeback for Julia Garner
, proving that her Ozark
days might be over, but her connection to Netflix remains firmly intact.
