What Was the Controversial ‘Root Cause’ Documentary on Netflix? Why Was It Removed and Where Can You Watch It in 2025?

Documentaries happen to be Netflix’s forte. Ranging from true-crimes to air crash disasters, or somewhere between missing
person files, and closely covering the public feud of celebrities, you name it, and Netflix will produce a documentary like Aladdin from the lamp. While most of
these are well-received and well critiqued, there are certain original
documentaries that have stirred up controversies due to their sensitive subject
matter, like the
Root Cause

documentary.

havoc?

How Root Cause single handedly disrupted the world of dentists

Root Cause

is
a 2019 feature-length documentary produced by Frazer Bailey, which showed his 10-year
journey to find the root cause of his panic attacks, anxiety,
chronic fatigue, nausea, dizziness, agitation, and insomnia. He even claimed that root canal therapies are associated with cancer. In 2019, it was
released on multiple platforms like Netflix, Amazon, Vimeo, iTunes, Google Play, and YouTube. But things got complicated as government associations soon intervened in the matter,
accusing the documentary of spreading misinformation.

 The American Dental Association, the
American Association of Dental Research, and others sent a private letter to companies
streaming the film, which warned that continuing it could
“harm the viewing
public by spreading long-disproven claims.”

This was followed by its removal from the
major streaming platforms, including Netflix and Amazon, in less than a month of
release.
