There was a time when Prince Harry
and Meghan Markle
had plenty of ways to grow their Hollywood careers beyond Netflix. However, over the years, as many of their projects fell through, including their lucrative Spotify deals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been left with a select few opportunities to make an impact in the entertainment world. Their final year with Netflix, for which they had been working on a couple of shows, was a make-or-break moment to see if the streaming giant would extend its contract with the Californian royals.
Given the response to their first show in the latest line-up, Polo,
however, it is hard to say if the couple can still hold Netflix’s interest.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix Polo show’s trailer earns dismal feedback
Netflix has just dropped the first look at Polo,
a sports documentary from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Productions, and the Sussexes are already earning a barrage of ridicule over it. Recently, a source told the Daily Mail
that Netflix executives are unhappy with Polo
because it does not feature the Sussexes. “People want personal stuff,
” the source said, while giving a shoutout to the couple’s controversial Harry & Meghan

Kinsley pointed out Prince Harry’s absence, even though Polo
was being marketed in his name in the first place. She was also surprised to see Meghan Markle’s name in the credits, as the show was thought to be her husband’s solo project. Kinsley remarked that the Sussexes’ lack of screen time might lead people to question just how involved the couple was in the show. The Sussexes even faced criticism from their friends.
Some of Prince Harry’s old friends, who used to play polo with him in his younger days, gave the Netflix show Polo
a poor review.
Prince Harry’s own friends slam his Netflix show
Former friends of Prince Harry, who played polo with him back in the day, told The Daily Beast after the trailer release thathey were left in “appalled hysterics
” by the trailer. They called the Netflix show “tacky
“. One friend even said that the trailer missed a chance to include “kids from less rarefied backgrounds”
and focused solely on “rich kids.
”
The five-part series is set to launch globally on December 10. While the show will most likely not feature Prince Harry or Meghan Markle, despite their heartfelt PDA moments at the game
, it will follow various international players on and off the field as they compete in the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida. But whether the series can overcome the lukewarm reception of its trailer is yet to be seen.
