Jeff Goldblum Recounts a Wholesome Story About Young Julia Garner to ‘Ozark’ Lead Jason Bateman

Every A-lister dreams about their picture-perfect Hollywood lives, but only a handful of celebrities live it in real time. Although destiny plays a crucial role in making the quintessential Hollywood dreams come true, those climbs eventually become archives of the past whenever the icons find themselves on a cinematic trip down memory lane. Most recently, Jurassic Park actor Jeff Goldblum revisited the open vault of his showbiz memories to reveal a heartwarming tale to Ozark

star Jason Bateman about his co-star Julia Garner, when she was younger.

Though Tinseltown is all about the stories that stay, Goldblum’s Garner tale belongs to the lesser-known camp.

Jeff Goldblum recalls his first meeting with Julia Garner, Jason Bateman’s Ozark co-star

On a recent episode of the Smartless

podcast, Jeff Goldblum joined Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes. Speaking about his latest Netflix series, Kaos

, and his co-star Janet McTeer, who also portrayed Helen Pierce in Ozark

, Goldblum suddenly remembered an anecdote about another Ozark

co-star Bateman shared the screen with, a young Julia Garner. It was back when Garner, hardly 12-15 years old, came to meet him backstage at the Booth Theater.

Goldblum performed The Pillowman, Martin McDonagh’s 2003 play, at the Booth Theater. Garner reportedly went to meet him backstage to share her admiration for what he does, while confessing about her own dreams of becoming an actress. He recalled Garner saying she had a script and pitching him in for a reading, to which Goldblum nodded affirmatively. “She seemed like an interesting and smart girl,”

he mused before giving away the name.

Julia Garner’s rise to superstardom

Julia Garner may have earned recognition on Netflix’s Ozark

as Ruth Langmore. But since her plunge into the pop culture, she has yet to take a break. Garner has gained a showbiz attraction for portraying the most unconventional roles, whether it is in the FX drama The Americans

or the Netflix miniseries Inventing Anna

.

However, 2025 has turned out to be a Hollywood highlight for the star.

Last year, she was cast as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps

, scheduled for release on July 25. Besides her superhero flight, she also appeared in Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man

, the recently released American horror film, serving as a reboot of the franchise. Additionally, Weapons
