Surviving in the music industry is no easy feat. Even the most talented names like Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, and Selena Gomez have often been reduced to their appearance rather than celebrated for their artistry. Joining this group is also Billie Eilish, who throughout her career has faced her share of harsh scrutiny too, enduring everything from wardrobe criticism to body-shaming. Whether it was being called out “fat”
for wearing a tank top and shorts or being trolled for her iconic 2021 British Vogue shoot on lingerie that cost her 100,000 Instagram followers, Eilish has had it hard.
While Billie Eilish has always given it back to the trolls, it seems that she does get affected by them, as would anyone. Hence, when Nicki Minaj, who too has faced the worst because of the setup beauty standards, and Eilish sat together, the conversation became unfiltered, honest, and unexpectedly emotional.
Billie Eilish gets emotional by Nicki Minaj’s heart-touching question
In a recent British Vogue interview,
Nicki Minaj posed a deeply personal question to Billie Eilish about beauty standards and visibility in the music industry. Minaj asked Eilish about how she thinks that the singer often feels “uncomfortable”
with her beauty and whether she ever wished her music could be heard without her appearance influencing perceptions.
To this, Eilish responded how the question made her “tear up a little.”
The ‘bad guy’ singer added how “never really felt very beautiful”
and had to convince herself of her worth, saying how, “being a woman is hard.”

Nicki Minaj agreed instantly to Eilish. The singer is the face of British Vogue’s May issue. In this interview, other fellow musicians also interviewed her, like SZA, Ariana Grande, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Charli xcx
. The questions ranged from Roan asking the why behind her, not wearing long nails anymore, to SZA asking Eilish about her dreams. However, her heartfelt interaction with Minaj is what hit home.

These words surely are heartbreaking for Billie Eilish’s true fans who do not measure her talent by her beauty. Her recent award win is proof of her talent
. But Eilish has had a long struggle with her physical appearance in public.
Billie Eilish and her struggles with body image
Billie Eilish has long struggled with body image ever since she stepped into the industry in her teens. Back in her 2019 Calvin Klein advert as the spokesperson for the brand, she explained that she mostly wore baggy clothes in public to avoid being judged. In another interview with Vogue in 2023, the ‘Ocean Eyes’ singer spoke about how the body shaming and negative comments of the past “still hurts her,”
at times even in the present.
Despite the persistent online scrutiny, Billie Eilish is actively working on self-acceptance. While Eilish has acknowledged time and again how the hurtful comments affected her and continue to affect her, at times, she’s learning to prioritize her own feelings over others’ opinions, emphasizing the importance of self-love and resilience.
