As stock values for his company continue to fall amid his government interference, Elon Musk has been surprisingly honest about how much he’s struggling to run his companies right now. So much so that, on Thursday night, Seth Meyers wondered how Donald Trump would be promoting the companies right now if he ran them.
During his “A Closer Look” segment, Meyers played a clip from a recent interview Musk did with Fox Business, in which he admitted that he’s maintaining his businesses “with great difficulty,” before sighing very deeply.
“Oh man, that was a loud f—ing sigh. It’s rare to see a man look this defeated on TV,” Meyers said with a laugh. “He went from sounding like a motivational speaker to sounding like the Jets coach at a post-game press conference.”
Meyers then argued that Musk simply “doesn’t have Trump’s ability to always pretend that everything’s going great,” which is why his response was so candid.
“If Trump were in charge of Musk’s company, he’d be saying, ‘We’re selling more Teslas than ever before. SpaceX just landed on Neptune. Now we’re going straight to the sun. We’re gonna blow up the sun,’” Meyers imitated in his Trump voice. “‘No more solar panels, no more green new scam, because the sun will be gone. No more woke.”
“‘You won’t be woke because the sun will never be out. You’ll always be asleep,’” he continued. “‘We got rid of the su– I remember the man in the moon came up to me, big moon, strong moon, tears pouring down from his lunar craters into a sea of tranquility. And he said to me, he said, ‘Sir? MMGA!’ And I said, I said, ‘What does mean?’ He said, ‘Make the Moon Great Again!’”
