President Donald Trump said he will be buying a “brand new Tesla” on Tuesday to support Elon Musk, the company’s CEO and the head of his new Department of Government Efficiency.
“To Republicans, Conservatives and all great Americans, Elon Musk is ‘putting it on the line’ in order to help our Nation, and he is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! But the Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla, one of the World’s great automakers, and Elon’s ‘baby,’ in order to attack and do harm to Elon, and everything he stands for,” President Trump posted on Truth Social late Monday night.
He continued: “They tried to do it to me at the 2024 Presidential Ballot Box, but how did that work out? In any event, I’m going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American. Why should he be punished for putting his tremendous skills to work in order to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN???”
The president’s purchase would come as Tesla’s share price has taken a beating in recent months, dropping 42% since the start of the year. The electric car company hit an all-time high of $488.54 in December, but is trading for about $225 per share on Tuesday morning. Recently, a number of violent protestors have attacked Tesla stores and vehicles, including one person in Colorado who threw a Molotov cocktail at a Cybertruck; another guy in New York City was caught on camera smacking the windows of a Cybertruck and flipping it off as it drove down the street last weekend.
Musk, who has been the chief executive of Tesla since 2008, has been the target of criticism from many left-leaning Americans and politicians of late for his work with DOGE. Notably, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who called Musk “not smart” and “morally vacant,” have been critical of DOGE, which has been on a cost-cutting spree within the federal bureaucracy. Musk has said several times he would like to cut at least $1 trillion in annual government spending, or about 15% of what the 2024 budget was.
Musk, during an interview with Fox Business host Larry Kudlow on Monday, said he plans on spearheading DOGE for another year.
