When Kendrick Lamar was announced to headline Super Bowl LIX’s halftime show, showbiz erupted in both celebration and contestation. But after a row of discussion and debates, when K-Dot actually took to the stage, he left fans flabbergasted with a guest appearance no one saw coming at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Although Lamar has mastered the art of surprise, as seen by record-shattering drops like ‘GNX,’ the ‘Like That’ rapper left the world considerably perplexed as he introduced none other than Samuel L. Jackson to his set.
Mic-drop moments are practically Lamar’s signature move, so consider this one as a throwback encore if the questions are too many and answers are scarce.
Kendrick Lamar and Samuel L. Jackson’s good old connection before Super Bowl
Kendrick Lamar and Samuel L. Jackson’s link-up is not exactly novel, nor is Super Bowl LIX special. Around nine years back in 2016, both made headlines for bringing the digital world to a standstill with Jackson’s Instagram post that saw the dynamic duo joining forces
. “In the studio today getting Woke with the Blackness Alarm Clock @kendricklamar!!,”
Jackson captioned the post, striking a pose with K-Dot.
Back in the day, fans were left scratching their heads, as they are today. However, there was abundant speculation that Jackson may have been giving K-Dot an interlude for his next jazz-soul odyssey. Although all of it was nothing more than a hypothesis, the latest Super Bowl cameo by Uncle Sam was a spectacle. Especially since all fans geared up for SZA’s guest performance by Lamar’s side, this was a surprise worth a past brainstorming.
