4 Reasons Why Taylor Swift Should Not Join the Marvel Cinematic Universe Despite the Uproar

Since Taylor Swift

signed up her name to the superhero gossip grapevine of the Marvel Cinematic Universe last summer, the truth has not altered the course of anticipation and speculation thus far. Despite the prospects of a Dazzler cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine

, the 35-year-old has maintained a judicious distance from the cosmic fray. As A-listers orbit the superhero rumor mill with dizzying frequency, the fan-theorizing and fan-casting cult has shown no signs of deceleration. But as the possibility of a Swift-infused Marvel cameo hangs precariously in the balance, we have the question of the hour: should she steer clear of the MCU?

So, here are 4 compelling reasons why Swift might be wise to resist the superhero’s siren call.

Taylor Swift’s cinematic pull may not be as strong as her sonic force

The well-known industry insider, MyTimeToShineHello, recently took to X to reignite the flames of the superhero rumor mill, revealing “Taylor Swift is in talks to join the MCU.”

While it is not exactly a rare phenomenon for musicians to leap into acting—think Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande—Swift’s potential in a superhero pedigree like that of Marvel Comics could incite concerns. Firstly, the pop star is no stranger with cameras, having starred in her music videos from a young age.

Secondly, she also has expertise in working behind the camera with All Too Well: The Short Film

and ‘Fortnight.’ While no one doubts her dramatic chops, many believe her music videos are more emotionally rich than her action bits.

Swift has acted in multiple gigs, including Valentine’s Day, Hannah Montana: The Movie, The Giver, New Girl, CSI, Amsterdam,

and Cats,

among others.

Though Swift has come a long way from the critics’ bottom-ranking days, she is yet to bloom and be reckoned as a cinematic force in showbiz. So far, her acting career has been a mixed bag—it churned out unrelenting criticism on one end and failed to propel her to stardom as an actress, but then again, it provided valuable experience and exposure. Of course, the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be the ultimate stage for her flight.

Likewise, the fall could be just brutal, denting the legacy she has otherwise created.

Taylor Swift is living in her sonic era

Taylor Swift is the pop royalty the world knows all too well. While making the world dance to the beats of the highest-grossing tour of all time with her Eras Tour, she redefined the dictionary meaning of “era

” by herself.

If that was not enough, she broke the record for the highest attended a concert by a female artist in the US, making hers the most attended concert tour in history.

Though the Eras Tour’s curtain call was an emotional ride for fans worldwide, the end of it did not shrink Swift’s popularity or her sonic charm, as a matter of fact. Despite 3 months of no Eras Tour, the self-made billionaire

is still the crowned pop princess of the music industry. As a result, shifting from the symphonic high of her career to make a name in Hollywood at the moment could be a distraction because twice the focus could invite twice the problems.

Plus, considering Swift has not really lucked out this year like the rest of the trips around the sun, this may not be the perfect time for another jumpstart into the uncertain. With the fans’ assumption scaling at a rigorous pace regarding what awaits her next era, this could indeed be the time to warm-up for another sonic home run because that is a field where failure would not dare confront Swift.

That said, it is not only Swift who can dodge a bullet on this one.

Marvel Studios can invite trouble in paradise with a Taylor Swift role

Everything Taylor Swift touches turns into gold. But is her Midas touch enough to swap the diss guns into love showers? It may not be. Amidst the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s era of redemption and reclamation, more or less every A-lister who has made a name in showbiz, irrespective of their areas of expertise, has circled the rumor mill of Marvel’s casting. While Marvel Studios aimed to put an end to superhero fatigue, the MCU has yet to see success with that strategy beyond Deadpool & Wolverine.

Additionally, the way the studio has been resurrecting MCU characters gone for good, Swift’s place in the superhero sphere looks a bit foggy. Furthermore, the subpar reception of the new Captain America and the concerns surrounding Pedro Pascal’s casting in the forthcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps

show fans are not really sitting well with the MCU’s picks.

Moreover, Marvel has been criticized for mishandling diversity and representation by resorting to tokenism. Hence, maintaining the distance from Swift amidst these fleeting tides could make both skirt potential disaster. However, does that mean Swift should keep it strict with her musical caliber?

Taylor Swift could pull off an Ariana Grande

It is unnecessary to restrict an artist to a starting point. When they demonstrate a natural aptitude for multiple pursuits, they should be encouraged to explore and showcase diversity. Likewise, Taylor Swift should not be confined either. However, if she has to branch out, she could follow in the footsteps of Ariana Grande, whose

Oscar-nominated musical, Wicked

,

allowed her guarded side an exposure by illuminating the talent she already excels at: music.

While Swift’s past acting experiences were not met with extraordinary success, her ability to convey emotions and play different characters underscored her appeal to different age groups. So, if Swift aims to nurture that improvement, it is possible she could tap into her full potential with the right projects, genre, and guidance. And who better to pull off a Grande-like magic other than whose life has been nothing less than a musical?
